rheoscreen® compact

The rheoscreen® compact is a computer-driven measurement device, based on our high-resolution impedance plethysmography technique.  It has been carefully developed to make the impedance plethysmography technique practical and easy to use for the health care professional.

The rheoscreen compact has the best signal-to-noise ratio in the market today. The control process is designed to offer the best reproducibility. Unlike many other devices, the entire pulse wave (detectable because of the compact's excellent resolution) is preserved so its other parameters can also be used for diagnostic tools.

It can perform a series of different arterial and venous examinations:

• Venous occlusion plethysmography (VOP)
  • for diagnosing proximal deep vein thromboses (DVT),
  • for functional evaluation of postthrombotic syndrome and
  • for determining functional parameters of the venous system of the legs (drainage function, venous tone, etc.)


• Arterial venous occlusion plethysmography
  reactive hyperemia test
  • for diagnosing arterial obliterative processes
  • for evaluating hemodynamic quality of collateral circulation
  without hyperemia
  • for quantifying the influence of pharmaceuticals or therapies on blood flow circulation


• Impedance plethysmographic pulse wave
  • for diagnosis and early recognition of arteriosclerosis, chronic and/or acute arterial vascular diseases, and fuctional circulatory disturbances
  • for monitoring of at-risk patients (i.e. diabetics, smokers, patients older than 50 years)
  • for post operative check-ups after vascular surgery
  • for determining the impact of pharmaceuticals on the vascular system


• Rheoencephalography (pulse waves of the head)
  • for diagnosing occlusive diseases in cerebral arteries
  • for diagnosing functional disturbances like migraine


• Peripheral (also segmental) blood pressure measurement

Technique

The rheoscreen compact is computer driven so all examinations can be carried out automatically. The system requires a computer running Windows 95/98/NT/2000 with an unused serial interface (COM port). MS-DOS based software is also available.

The measurement device detects the diagnostically important changes in blood volume by using a new high-resolution impedance technique. Each measurement uses data from 4 common, easily applied ECG electrodes. These electrodes are connected to the rheoscreen compact channels for data recording and analysis. The rheoscreen compact has 2 channels for simultaneous measurements of both sides of the body. An automatic pneumatic unit, used to drive the pneumatic occlusion cuffs for VOP or blood pressure, is included with the VOP option. The results of the VOP tests are comparable to mercury strain gauges without the risk of potentially toxic mercury gauges.

The rheoscreen® compact can be combined with other rheoscreen devices to build an integrated vascular measurement system.
